Okra (Lady’s Fingers)

Okra  is a bristly herb plant growing up to 2 meters high. It has a long-stalked angular leaves. In the axles of the leaves lies its single flower which has pale yellow in color. ​ Okra  has potassium, vitamin B, vitamin C, folic acid, and calcium. It’s low in calories and has a high dietary fiber content. Medicinal Usage: ​ Soothes and protects the alimentary tract. It acts as a softener of inflamed parts. Relieves flatulence and griping pains of the stomach and bowels. Prevents or cures spasms. As a laxative. Controls pneumonia, bronchitis, urinary problems, heart diseases and tuberculosis of the lungs. How to Use: The leaves are recommended as hot poultice also in decoction in cases of pneumonia and bronchitis. For the same disease, a tea of the flowers and the fruit is prepared by decoction which is taken with a little honey.
